The Key West Art & Historical Society will host the kick-off party this year celebrating the start of the 2018 Key Lime Festival with the sweetest and tartest kick-off party around.
Come to the Key West Lighthouse to see Key West's most creative minds attempt to outsmart gravity by finding a way to drop a Key Lime Pie from the top of the lighthouse to the ground... without damaging the pie. Try dropping your own pie, or just enjoy the spectacle from the ground. A perfect day of food, fun and friends, The Key Lime Kick-Off Party & Key Lime Pie Drop is an event you don't want to miss.
Grand Prize: $100 and bragging rights
Entry: Entry is free, but you need to register to guarantee we have a pie for you. To register, send an e-mail with subject: "Pie Drop" and your name and phone number to [email protected]
Objective: Your challenge is to build a device or container to protect a 5" diameter Key lime pie as it is dropped from the top of the Key West Lighthouse to a target below. Points will be awarded based on the condition of the pie when it lands. Additional points can be scored by landing on the target below.The winner will be the person or team with the highest point score.
Rules:
You may work alone or in groups of up to 4.
You may not spend more than $20 on your device or container.
No motorized parts. Nothing can be permanently attached to the pie. Parachutes are permitted.
Your container must be in free fall during the drop. No bungee cords or tethers.
Your device or container must not extend more than 1 foot in any direction.
The pie must be visible to spectators while on the device or in the container.
Supplies:
Participants should prepare their container or device in advance and provide all supplies. We provide the 5" diameter pie.
Prizes:
1st Place will receive a trophy and $100.
Additional trophies will be awarded for "Most Creative Design", "Best Decorated" and "Best Key Lime Theme". Costumes are encouraged.
